Construction spending fell again in the month of September, disappointing many on the downside. The drop in public construction spending was much larger than the drop in the private sector, but losses hit both sides of the ledger.
Declines in private sector construction spending were uneven and concentrated in manufacturing, food and retail establishments. Health care also dropped with the exception of hospitals, which have been expanding. Lodging slowed after being on a tear earlier in the year; so did theme park additions and expansions.
